I'm so sad

A friend of mine who used to work here just came by to say goodbye. He's going to boot camp. He joined the Marines. I know it's an honorable thing to do, defending our country and all, but seriously, he's way to pretty to be coming home in a body bag. I asked him why he did it; he said they were going to give him $100,000 for college. I told him yeah, if he comes back.
My best friend Jimbo is also a Marine. He spent a year in Iraq, and came home safely, then he volunteered to go back for another year. Boys can be so stupid! Everytime CNN says there are casualties, my heart stops until I check the casualties list to make sure his name isn't on it. Now I have another name I'm going to have to look for.
Please, pray for my boys.

Things on the internet I'd rather do...

...than my school work:
Read Brian
Read Monty
Visit The Movie Room
Neopets
Millsberry
Balls 'n' Walls
Furious George
Pass The Potato
and if I'm really desperate to not do my work Hold The Button.

Today is only the second day of class, and I've already finished 2 assignments not due until the 29th, and 1 test not due until the 31st, so I guess it's okay that I'm not working on my class, but I still feel guilty for it. What I really need to be working on is not writing run-on sentences! Damn that one is bad!

Have a nice day.

Back to School

Classes started today. The campus is riddled with 18 year old first time college students running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It's so fun!
I'm taking a class this semester. It's an online class for Microsoft Access. It will make me qualified for a better paying job opening up here in the library. My boss paid my past due tuition, the tuition for the class, and bought my book. I owe her more than $500 now. I love my boss. She's awesome.
I'm thinking about enrolling in another class too, but I don't know what I want to take. It doesn't take very much for me to get bored and withdraw from a class, but I don't want anymore W's on my transcript, so if I decide to take something, it's going to have to be something that I'll stick with for 16 weeks.
I have to go do my homework now. :(

I've been tagged!

Brian tagged me.
It's the first time I've been blog tagged. I'm a little excited about it. I feel so special!

10 Years Ago Today
I had just graduated from high school and moved into my first apartment with my best friend. I had just quit my job at the local movie theatre and started working for a pest control company owned by one of the deacons at my church. I had about 9 weeks of cosmetology school to go before I was finished. It was a great time.

I had just decided that I didn't want to do hair anymore and was in the process of finding a horrid better job. My grandma's husband had either just died or was about to die, and my sister & I drove to California in 24 hours for his funeral.

I was doing the exact same thing I'm doing now--working at the library living with my momma. It's been a pretty boring year.

Yesterday
I slept until noon, the Brion came over and we watched last week's Six Feet Under & Entourage, the Survivor 1 finale, Starved, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this week's Six Feet Under & Entourage. I cooked spaghetti for dinner. Brion tricked me into convinced me to cut his hair, and I convinced him to do the dishes. I figure it was a fair trade.

Tomorrow
I'm working 8-5, watching Survivor: Australia & Big Brother, and hopefully going to bed early.

RE: Internet Dating

Since the original internet dating post, I "met" a guy. We've been e-mailing each other for a couple of weeks, and now he wants to hang out. I gave him my phone number. I HATE talking on the phone to people I don't know really well. I never know what to talk about. So, now I'm a combination of scared, excited, freaked out, worried and anxious. What if we meet and he thinks I'm grotesque, or worse, if he's grotesque? What if he's boring? What if I'm boring and just don't realize it? Aw, crap, he already has my phone number. I can't back out now. I need a xanax.

The loss of Peter Jennings

It makes me very sad that Peter Jennings is gone. I'm not a big news watcher, but I do remember those horribly scary hours and days immediately following the World Trade Center attacks. Peter was there for me. I couldn't sleep; Peter was there for me. I was afraid to leave the house; Peter was there for me. It was very comforting then to know that Peter was there for me. What if it happens again? Who will be there for me then? Some strange anonymous face that hasn't been a presence since before I was born? Will they have the same comforting power that Peter had? I doubt it.

Thrift Shopping

I took the afternoon off work yesterday and went thrift store shopping with Brion. It was so much fun. The first thrift store we went to was full of crap, so we didn't buy anything there. We went to the Goodwill Store next, and I got lavendar platform flip flops, a pair for me & a pair for my mom. They were only 99 cents, and they were brand new with the tags still on them. They are so comfortable that I wore them today even though I don't own anything that matches them. I also got a portable hood dryer for $2.00. It's going to make my at home beauty shopping so much easier. Now when I give highlights I don't have to stand over the person moving the blowdryer around their head until their finished. I can just stick them under the dryer and forget about it. Yay!

Random tip: The Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen on TV. You should totally watch it if you get a chance.
